This video coaching tutorial demonstrates a progressive sequence of drills for youth goalkeepers to improve their reaction responses to ball strikes. I don’t necessarily agree with the method, but I’m including the drills in case any parent wants to work on the drills with their aspiring goalkeeper kids. Unless you have adequate staff and players who have indicated a desire to play goalkeeper, the drills are too specialized for inclusion in a “standard” practice session.
Utilizing some type of reaction response by a prospective keeper in conjunction with a pair of attackers and a defender so more team members are involved and fewer players spend any time standing around waiting their time for a drill will probably be a more effective use of time. Reaction drills like the ones shown here would be best utilized in a practice session solely for prospective goalkeepers.
